I adore Tara McPherson's forms and clean, clean lines. So many of her images - like this one and this one and this one - need to be tattooed on my body.
Kristen Ulve has an incredible sense of flow, very clean use of space, and a rather other-worldly vision.
I have a hard time with acyrlic and oil painting, so painters like Cory Bradley just take my breath away. The illustrations and paintings on his website show a very wide range of skill and style, and his vision eloquently expresses social commentary about economic identity and race identity in our culture (e.g. the "bum confession" signs and the series of "hello, my name is" paintings). Got to his site and check out the rest of his stuff; it's completely worth your time.
In my own art, I'm insanely obsessed with shading and midtones - to the point where I'll ruin a piece shading over and over again trying to get the perfect transition. I love the smooth, perfect, roundness of Ritva Voutila's color and shading. She's done the artwork for a lot of children's books, and I only wish the books of my childhood had been this beautifully illustrated.
Robert Carter's illustrations are great, but it's his portraits that really get me. I love the versatility of his brush strokes, from thick and chunky to so soft and blended there is no stroke at all.
Also like how he emphasizes the subtler colors in shadow and skin tone: the greens, blues, and oranges.
He has one illustration that appeared in Boston's Weekly Dig (i.e. "Beer Advocate").
